Laos
The attraction of Laos, the smallest and perhaps least known of the Indochina countries, lies in its quiet and traditional character. This sparsely populated country provides a fascinating glimpse of what life must have been like in “old Asia”, its sights and scenes recalling the leisurely pace of the past. Laos is a landlocked country and its densely forested mountains allowing it to position itself as a destination for nature lovers. The valley of the Mekong River largely defines the landscape and the country’s major cities are located along its banks. Venerable temples and other monuments attest to a regal history that goes back to the 14th century.

Vietnam
Geographically Vietnam occupies the eastern portion of the Indochina peninsula, forming an elongated “S” in the shape of an elephant’s trunk along the South China Sea. Large and more densely populated than its Indochina neighbors, Vietnam is also culturally distinct. Whereas Laos and Cambodia were influenced by India, Vietnam’s cultural roots are Chinese. Hence, the art, the architecture, the religious mix and social fabric are quite different. Vietnam's diverse natural beauty, its long history and distinct culture have created a great travel destination that boasts forested highlands and scenic bays, fertile river deltas dotted with green paddy fields and sandy beaches hugging a coastline of 2000 km. Traveling from north to south, you will find dramatic landscapes, graceful colonial architecture and a range of historic and cultural landmarks.

Cambodia
The Khmer empire, centered at Angkor between the 9th and the 14th century, was one of the chief culture and power centers of Southeast Asia. Modern-day Cambodia is the heir to the once mighty Khmer empire and is emerging as one of the region’s prime new travel destinations. If Cambodia is a treasure trove, Angkor is its jewel box and one of Asia’s most spectacular archaeological sites. Visitors of today not only experience the magic of one of the world’s most impressive religious monuments, but also the warmth and friendliness of its people. And there is more to discover than just Angkor, not least the mighty Mekong River that winds its way through the heart of the country, the charm of its colonial-influenced capital, sleepy seaside towns and lush jungle plateaus that are largely undiscovered.

Mekong River Cruises
Yunnan, Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam all share, to a greater or lesser extent, the passage of the mighty Mekong River, Southeast Asia’s longest river. Along the banks of this vital waterway major civilizations have risen that have shaped the history of the region and determine the way of life of its people. From it source high in the Tibetan mountains, the river flows through southern Yunnan and northeastern Burma, crosses Laos from North to South, marks the border between Thailand and Laos and crosses the plains of Cambodia, before finally reaching Vietnam and the South China Sea. Cruises on the Mekong River are increasingly popular, particularly in Laos and between Cambodia and Vietnam.

Myanmar
Burma, renamed Myanmar in 1987, is the largest mainland South-East Asian country and offers a remarkable variety of cultural and historic sights. Within its borders is an enormous topographical variety, ranging from snowcapped mountain peaks to an extensive and undeveloped coastline along the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Bengal. Myanmar is largely untouched by modern life and retains an aura of bygone days. It is a place where Buddhist traditions and activities dominate every aspect of life, a place save for traveling, with people warm and hospitable. Numerous historic sites, ancient royal capitals and impressive Buddhist temples captivate the traveler with their fascination. A land of fascinating beauty and charm, Myanmar remains one of the most mysterious and undiscovered destinations in Asia.
