|The Chedi Chiang Mai *****

Open since 2006, The Chedi Chiang Mai is located in the heart of the town and, while the entrance opens from a reasonably busy road, once inside guests are within a chic urban retreat that seems far away from the hectic pace of downtown Chiang Mai.

The Chedi Chiang Mai features a total of 84 rooms and suites in a 4-storey main building formed around a large courtyard. Available are 52 Deluxe rooms (50 sqm incl. balcony) and 32 Club Suites twice the size of the Deluxe Rooms with large sitting areas and spacious open balconies. All rooms feature a contemporary Asian design, with stylish furnishing, teakwood floors and open bathrooms.

Centerpiece of the resort is the free standing colonial wooden building dated from early 1900 that once housed the British Consulate and was integrated within the design of the Chedi as “The Restaurant”, offering Northern Thai specialties and innovative Pacific Rim cuisine.

Nestled on the banks of the Ping River and 3 km from the city center, the Rati Lanna Riverside Spa Resort is a peaceful heaven that captures the essence of Chiang Mai’s Lanna ancestry in its architecture and interior décor.

Le Méridien Chiang Mai added a new touch of modern luxury to the center of Chiang Mai when it opened its doors in 2009. Centrally located on Chang Klan Road and within a few steps of the Night Bazaar, Le Méridien Chiang Mai offers a total of 384 guestrooms mainly categorized as Deluxe Rooms (36 sqm), Deluxe Studio (40 sqm at the corners), Premium Deluxe Rooms (36 sqm) or Junior Suites (76 sqm). All guestrooms and suites boast king-size or twin beds, sleek glass and marble bathrooms with rain showers, including LCD television and broadband Internet connection. The Dusit D2 Hotel Chiang Mai is located on Chang Klan Road and within a few steps from the famous Night Bazaar. The Rachamanka is a superb little boutique hideaway, designed by two of Thailand's foremost architect-designers, who have collected antique pieces of furniture from northern Thailand and Burma, and woven them carefully into a treasury of Lanna art and Chinese antiquities.

The design of the hotel is taken from of one Northern Thailand's most beautiful old temples and planned according to ancient principles of Chinese architecture. The interior design is based on northern Thai Lanna culture, which is a blend of Chinese, Laotian and Burmese influences. There are 18 Superior rooms, 4 Deluxe rooms, 1 Two-Bedroom suite and 1 One- Bedroom suite. Each guest room is slightly different, designed in a contemporary Chinese-Thai style. Within the hotel compound there is an attractive Thai restaurant and a Swimming pool.

In 2009 – one year after its opening - The U Chiang Mai won the Historical Architectural Conservation Award from the Association of Siamese Architects as hotel has preserved the original architectural structure of the past residence of Chiang Mai’s governor and now uses it as the Resident’s Lounge, accommodating the Spa and the Library. U Chiang Mai does not offer great views but a central downtown location. It offers 41 tastefully designed and decorated rooms equipped with the latest amenities (29 Deluxe rooms with 33 sqm and 12 Superior rooms with 43 sqm, some rooms have direct pool access). Tucked away in a little side street across Tapae Gate, right in the heart of the city and within steps of a wide choice of restaurants, bars, and shops, De Naga is ideally positioned for exploring Chiang Mai. The low rise boutique hotel features 55 rooms in a pleasant contemporary design of dark teakwood and local artwork. |Tamarind Village ***

Tamarind Village is a low-rise resort with a rustic charm, located right in the centre of Chiangmai’s old town. Tucked away in a small alley, The Tamarind Village feels like an oasis from the busy city outside. Divided into three private courtyards surrounding a 200 year-old tamarind tree, the 40 rooms are located in a cluster of 2-story buildings. The rooms are decorated in simple and rustic Thai style, furnished with dark wooden furniture and a concrete floor; first floor rooms have a little balcony overlooking the gardens. Location: At the “Golden Triangle”, 45 minutes drive north of Chiang Rai, 3 ½ hours drive from Chiang Mai.

The Anantara Golden Triangle Resort is wonderfully positioned overlooking the Mekong River and the borders of Laos and Myanmar. It is a low-rise, resort-style building that blends in well with the surroundings and offers an oasis of ambiance and tranquility.

All 58 rooms and suites have a contemporary Thai touch, wooden floor bedrooms and marble bathrooms with shutters to open up to the bedroom and views beyond. Each room has a balcony offering a view that takes in three countries. The 19 Anantara Suites are double the size and offer additional benefits. Open since 2004, the Legend Chiang Rai is located directly on the right bank of the Mae Kok River, secluded from the city, yet within a few driving minutes from its centre. The low-rise boutique style resort blends naturally with the relatively undeveloped riverfront. 78 well appointed studios and villas are housed in single or two-story buildings of contemporary Northern style architecture. Superior Studios offer garden views, Deluxe Studios river views. Open since 2008 only, the pleasant Phovadol Resort & Spa invites with a peaceful garden setting within a short distance from the city centre. The hotel comprises of a total of 154 rooms and cottages that are spread out through an extensive garden and lagoon area. The accommodations are divided in different types by location and size: Standard rooms (24 sqm) are located on the 1st and 2nd floor, Deluxe Suites (48 sqm) on the 3rd floor of the main building. Various types of cottages are fanned out over the large garden area: Superior Cottage (34 sqm, first floor), Deluxe Cottage (36 sqm, second floor). The Rimkok Resort is one of the long-time classic hotels for group tours.
