Open since 2009, the VIE Hotel Bangkok is the first Asian property of the French hotel group Accor’s “M Gallery Collection” design hotels. Located in the heart of Bangkok’s shopping belt, the hotel is within steps of the Ratchatewi BTS Skytrain station and a short walk from MBK and Siam Paragon. The hotel is spread out into two buildings; Dream 1 has the restaurant for breakfast and Dream 2 has the rooftop pool. Once a Chinese Opera House, providing a cultural gathering place for the local community to enjoy traditional performing arts, the Shanghai Mansion has been lovingly restored into a unique Boutique Hotel with 76 rooms.

Located in the heart of Bangkok’s bustling Chinatown, Shanghai Mansion is only minutes away from the city most famous landmarks, its exotic markets and well-known temples. The hotel’s design is a colorful display of lanterns, stained glass windows, imperial and retro-styled furniture. Like in a noble home, you will be enveloped in the comforts of by-gone days. |Arun Residence ***

Arun Residence is a recently renovated historic Sino-Portuguese river house that has been converted into a 6-room home-stay type hotel, much different from the concrete and steel high-rise buildings that dominate the skyline of Bangkok. Hidden down a shop house lined soi (small street), Arun Residence is located right in the historic part of Bangkok. The small hotel offers one of Bangkok’s finest views of the Temple of Dawn (Wat Arun) and the Chao Phraya River and is within walking distance of the Temple of the Emerald Buddha (Wat Phra Keo), the Temple of the Reclining Buddha, (Wat Po) and Pak Klong Talad Flower Market.

Arun Residence has only six rooms and early booking is essential. Its three suites are the recommended room types to book (as the three other rooms offer no river views): The Arun Suite (a roof garden suite with private veranda, king size bed only) and the Jasmine Suite and Ratchapruek Suite (38 sqm; with double bed, living room and balcony). The rooms exude a quaint charm and are decorated with teakwood finishes and include air-condition and en suite bathrooms. The “Deck” restaurant is a lovely spot to linger or have a meal while gazing out across the river, while the rustic rooftop offers magnificent night views of Wat Arun.

   
|The Siam Heritage ***

Perfectly positioned in the business and entertainment district of Bangkok, The Siam Heritage is a boutique hotel located on Suriwong Road, only a few steps from the well-known Bangkok night bazaar at Patpong Road, and within walking distance to BTS Skytrain and MRTA subway stations. The Siam Heritage exudes a casual charm and a warm hospitality from the hustle and bustle at its doorsteps. The hotel offers a total 73 guest rooms of different sizes: Superior room (30 sqm, with king or town bedding and shower or bathtub), Executive rooms (30 sqm, with king beds and shower or bathtub) and 1-Bedroom suites (50-60 sqm, with separate small living and bedroom with king beds only). Ariyasomvilla is a small family-run hotel located at the end of a small lane off Sukhumvit Road and within walking distance to the main shopping area and to the sky train station Ploenchit (10 min). Built in the 1940-ies, the beautifully designed original colonial style house forms the center of this boutique-style hotel while newer housing has been added around it with charming personal touches. If you want to be centrally located, but leave the hustle and bustle of Bangkok outside, this is a peaceful haven with a delightful combination of traditional Thai and modern convenience.

Ariyasomvilla has 25 tastefully appointed rooms and suites of various sizes, both with king and twin beds: Studio (34 sqm), Deluxe (42 sqm), Executive Deluxe (60 sqm), Executive Suite (70 sqm) and a 4-bed room 190 sqm Presidential Suite. The rooms feature old teak wood floors, silk drapes and a combination of antique and reproduction furniture, evocative of a bygone era but with all the facilities of the 21st century. All rooms have en-suite bathrooms with bath tubs, air-conditioning, LCD TV with DVD player, free wi-fi, and some rooms have balconies overlooking the garden. The swimming pool is surrounded by trees and palms.

The hotel’s own restaurant “Na Aroon” emphasizes on tasty and healthy food with the accent on Vegetarian and Fish dishes. Spa “Sen” offers soothing Thai massages while the Library provides a quiet spot for reading and internet.

Romantic River Cruising



|Mekhala

The “Mekhala” boats are restored rice barges that offer comfortable and relaxing overnight journeys between Bangkok and the ancient Siamese capital of Ayutthaya. The magic of this journey is the tranquility and unhurried pace only a river cruise can provide. The 2-story barges are made of teak wood planks and feature either 6 or 9 comfortably appointed double-bed cabins in the hull of the lower deck, with air-condition and western-style bathrooms, while the open-air upper deck provides space for sunbathing and lounging.

Cruise Program
Day 1
Leave Bangkok on board the Mekhala river barge, cruising upriver on the mighty Chao Phraya River. On both sides of the riverbanks are lively pictures of the city and its famous landmarks. After a few hours into cruising, the bustle of the city will be replaced by the changing moods of the passing countryside; serene temples, lively riverside communities and scenic nature. In the evening, the Mekhala docks at the peaceful Wat Kai Tia temple. You will be treated to a romantic candle light dinner under the stars before you spend the night in the comfortably equipped cabin on board.

Day 2
For the second day, you may want to wake up early and participate in the traditional food offering to the monks of the temple. Afterwards the Mekhala cruises further upriver while breakfast is served on board. Bang Pa-In, site of the former royal summer palace, marks the end of the river journey. After a walking tour to see its European and Chinese influenced architecture, continue to Ayutthaya by long-tail boat. Declared Unesco World Heritage site, Ayutthaya has been the capital of Siam for 400 years. Visit the most important temples and ruins of one of the country’s most impressive archaeological sites. After lunch, return back to Bangkok by car (on continue your onward tour).

Northern Thailand: Golden Triangle & Chiang Mai

Why not make your honeymoon special by experiencing an elephant mahout training course at one of Northern Thailand’s most beautiful resorts. From here, go on to the charming city of Chiang Mai that mesmerizes with its golden temples and its ancient culture. Golden Triangle

The Anantara Golden Triangle Resort is wonderfully positioned overlooking the Mekong River and the borders of Laos and Myanmar, an area evocatively known as the Golden Triangle. The Anantara is a low-rise resort that that blends in well with the surroundings and offers a haven of ambiance and tranquility. All 58 rooms and suites have a contemporary Thai touch, wooden floor bedrooms and marble bathrooms with shutters to open up to the bedroom. Each room has a balcony offering a view that takes in three countries. The 19 Anantara Suites are double the size and offer additional benefits.

One of the Anantara’s highlights is the free form infinity swimming pool, which also enjoys great views of the Golden Triangle and the Mekong River. The resort also has a signature Spa for some excellent relaxation. Of the two restaurants, one serves Northern Thai cuisine with Lao and Burmese influences. The other serves fine Italian food and has an excellent wine cellar.

Anantara’s unique feature is the Mahout (elephant driver) Training School, conducted at an elephant camp that is part of the 65 hectare resort. The three-day course costs 10,000 Thai baht and includes four hours of tuition each day. Shorter 1 or 2-day courses cost 4,000 Baht a day. The full course (which includes a final driving test) also covers the daily care of an elephant, feeding it and "the mahout lifestyle".

   
Chiang Mai

Chiang Mai
|The Chedi Chiang Mai *****

Open since 2006, The Chedi Chiang Mai is located in the heart of the town and while the entrance opens from a reasonably busy road, once inside guests are within a chic urban retreat that seems far away from the hectic pace of downtown Chiang Mai.

The Chedi Chiang Mai features a total of 84 rooms and suites in a 4-storey main building formed around a large courtyard that allows garden or river views. Available are 52 deluxe rooms (50 sqm incl. balcony) and 32 Club Suites twice the size of the Deluxe Rooms with large sitting areas and spacious open balconies. All rooms feature a contemporary-Asian design, with stylish furnishing, teakwood floors and open bathrooms.

Centerpiece of the resort is the free standing colonial wooden building dated from early 1900 that once housed the British Consulate and eventually was integrated within the design of the Chedi as “The Restaurant”, offering Northern Thai specialties and innovative Pacific Rim cuisine.
