Thai Cooking Classes in Bangkok

If you enjoy Thai food and would like to spend one or more fun-filled days learning the many secrets of Thai cooking, take advantage of a variety of 1 - 3 day-courses available at various locations in and around Bangkok. The “hands-on” courses are designed for participants with little time but who wish to attain the basic knowledge it takes to create menus for home entertainment or simply to enjoy a delicious home-cooked meal. Whether one is a novice or a “hobby” chef, you will always pick up new skills and authentic recipes.


 
A rural classroom:
Learn the secrets of Thai cooking at a typical Thai House

The “Thai House”, located out the outskirts of Bangkok, is the home of Pip Fargrajang and her family who have opened their home to overseas visitors who are keen to learn about the art of Thai cuisine and experience the Thai way of living. The course begins with an introduction to the kitchen, utensils, cooking techniques, Thai food names, the selection of ingredients and basic food groups. During the sessions, discover how to blend fresh herbs and spices and learn about the great variety of fresh vegetables. The cooking classes are held in an outdoor classroom in the midst of an orchard of mango, banana, papaya and coconut trees, and a kitchen garden of fresh herbs and spices that are used in the recipes. Lessons featuring brief lectures, the preparation of ingredients, hands-on cooking demonstrations and of course enjoying the fruits of success are conducted in an open-air kitchen.

1-day classes are held daily and include pick-up and drop-off from/at your hotel. For an authentic Thai experience 2 and 3-day courses that include overnight at the Thai House are available.

   
A floating classroom:
Learn the secrets of Thai Cooking on board the “Manohra”

Meet your chef and crew at the Bangkok Marriott Riverside Resort. They will take you on board the “Manohra”, an elegantly converted rice barge, for a cruise to the local market where you will be shown a variety of fresh foods for sale. Some of the ingredients required for the cooking will be bought at the market. As you cruise along the mighty Chao Phraya River the preparation of the food will begin on board. Each step will be explained and the nature of the ingredients described. The meal will be cooked and eaten step by step, an original way to learn some basics Thai cooking.

Classes are held Monday – Friday 08.00h–12.00h. Minimum 4 persons required.

   
An elegant classroom:
Learn the secrets of Thai Cooking at the “Blue Elephant” Restaurant

Located in a charming century old mansion in the centre of Bangkok is the “Blue Elephant Cooking School”. A typical day will commence with a visit by sky-train to Bang Rak morning market (morning courses only). Accompanied by your chef, you will learn to select and buy Thai ingredients and discover the usage of fruits and vegetables. Back at the classroom, the instructor will present a cookery demonstration of the dishes that you will prepare. Afterwards it’s time to put your hands on the cooking utensils at the practice room. Each student has his/her own table and stove, four dishes are waiting to be prepared by you. The classes will be followed by a meal in the delightful Blue Elephant restaurant, sampling your own cooking as well as additional Thai dishes.

Classes are held daily (except Sundays and public holidays); morning class starts at 08.30h, afternoon class at 13.00h. Available are a choice of morning or afternoon classes, or packages of 2-7 classes or private sessions for small groups (min 4 persons).
